Call for Art - A end of summer show sponsored by SMAACC

Theme: It's hotter than hell... so what the hell... let's have a show.  (Imagery or
subject matter can directly or loosely include reference to hot, hell, etc. - it is
your take on the theme)

Where: Peanut Building, 114 N. Houston, next to the Katy Depot, Denison, Texas.
Deliver work no later than 4pm, Tuesday, August 10
Reception: 7pm to 9pm, Friday, August 13, 2010
How long does the show run?  We will worry about that later.

The "Hotter than hell... " exhibit is open to all artists 18 years and older.  You
do not have to be a member of the Sunday Morning Art and Coffee Club to exhibit.  By
the way, we have been meeting for over 4 years now, every Sunday morning from 9am to
11 or 11:30am at Panera Bread in Town Center in Sherman.  Everyone is welcome.  No
dues, no secret handshake, no set agenda.... just coffee, bagels, and conversation
with other artists.

Limit two pieces per artist.

All work must be ready to hang.  Please no wet paint, no saw tooth hangers, no
stapled wires, no adhesive strips on the back of foam core, no photo frames with the
little hole or the triangular swivel hanger, no wires strung so loose that the
hanger shows when you hang the work.... just put two freaking eye screws (screwed
securely into the back of the frame) with real corded hanging wire.  How hard can
that be?  For a fee of $25 I will be happy to show how to do it.

For more information on the show please contact me via e-mail or call me at (903)
815-3665.

Artwork Details/ Requirements: All work must be original (no photo-reproductions or work based on another artist’s work); appropriate for the event, and current (executed within the past 2 years).  All mediums will be considered, however the final decision will be based on overall artistic interpretation of the theme, ability of the piece to be reproduced for use in promotional materials, as well as its ability to be visually distinctive when reproduced to the size of a #10 Envelope (approximately 4x8 inches).

All artworks must meet criteria set forth above and reflect Dwight D. Eisenhower in some form or fashion. Themes may be drawn from any portion of Ike’s life including his military service, presidency, life and times, Denison roots, etc. Portraits and likenesses are also appropriate.

Scope and Use: It is the intent that the selected artwork be the first of an annual competition to commemorate Dwight D. It would be utilized in promotional materials such as, but not limited to posters, print advertising, e-mails, related web pages, TV advertising, commemorative postage stamps and/or envelopes, and limited edition prints to be sold as a fundraising item.

The artist of the selected artwork must be agreeable to the following terms of image use by Downtown Denison Inc.:

  1. The artist would grant Downtown Denison Inc. rights to use the image free of charge on any and all promotional & fundraising materials related to the unveiling, commemoration, dedication, and maintenance of the Dwight D. Eisenhower Veterans Monument.

The artist would be an integral part of producing the limited edition prints to make sure they maintain the integrity of the original work. Also, the artist would be requested to sign 20% of the total print edition or other methods of reproduction as requested by Downtown Denison Inc. .

  3. The original artwork would remain the property of the artist. However, Downtown Denison Inc. would arrange a venue for auction or sale of the original as part of the unveiling, commemoration, and dedication of the Dwight D. Eisenhower Veterans Monument if the artist so chooses to make the piece available for purchase.

Downtown Denison Inc. agrees to:

  1. Use the image for promotional and fundraising purposes only and limits the use to events and materials specifically dealing with the he Dwight D. Eisenhower Veterans Monument.

  2. Protect the integrity of the image and render it as closely as possible to the original in all reproductions in print or digital formats.

  3. Include the artist’s name on all uses of the image.
